Configuring your Socket mobile scanner for iPad

The Socket Mobile S700 scanner is currently experiencing problems scanning Bookland EAN codes. These codes are used worldwide for books and begin with the numbers "978" .

The Socket Mobile S740 scanner is not affected by this issue and Socket Mobile recommends that resellers with affected S700 scanners contact their vendor to have the model replaced.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to pair your Mobile Socket Scanner for your iPad. The following models are compatible in Precision:

Socket Mobile 7Qi and 7Ci (discontinued by Socket)

Mobile Socket S700

Socket Mobile S740 and S760

Socket Mobile D740, D750 and D760

 

To set up your Socket Mobile for iPad scanner, follow the steps below:

1. Press and hold the small power button until the Bluetooth light turns blue and the scanner beeps twice

2. Your Socket barcode scanner is now powered on. For use with the iPad, you will need to set the scanner to iOS mode.

The scanner will automatically add your Precision products to a sale if iOS mode is running. Tap other fields in iOS mode to open the on-screen keyboard.

To activate iOS mode, scan the barcode below. The scanner will beep 3 times to confirm the mode change.

Tip:

Try scanning the following barcodes directly on the screen, if that doesn't work, print this page and scan it from there. These barcodes will also be in the manual that came with your mobile socket scanner.

3. Next, head to your iPad and tap the "Settings" icon to open the Settings app. Tap the Bluetooth menu to open the Bluetooth settings.

4. Turn on Bluetooth. Your iPad will search for available devices to connect with. Once it locates the barcode scanner, Socket CHS, press it to connect.

5. Wait a few seconds until the Socket makes a single beep to indicate that the iPad has successfully paired with the scanner.

6. Your scanner is now paired!

Your scanner should now be set up and ready to go. To test that it is working properly, open the Precision app and scan a product barcode that has already been added to your precision catalog. Scanning one of these products should automatically add it to your sales screen.

Having trouble connecting your scanner?

If the scanner appears in the Bluetooth list on your iPad but won't connect, press the "i" icon and choose "Forget this device". Then hold down the top two buttons on the scanner until you hear 3 descending tones. You have now successfully disassociated the scanner. Try pairing it again by following the steps above.

Scanning Product, Customer and Receipt Information Off the Sales Screen (Keyboard Mode)

By default, the Socket Scanner assumes you are trying to add a product to a sale when scanning a barcode. When scanning product information, such as the SKU when creating a product or customer/receipt information outside of the sales screen, you can tell your Socket Scanner what you are doing by putting it into keyboard mode.

Using this mode requires that you press the appropriate field before scanning the barcode and deleting the contents of the field (for example, the Customer Search or Product Search field).

To activate the keyboard mode, follow the steps below:

1. Disconnect your scanner from the iPad and scan the factory reset barcode below (the scanner will beep a series of times and turn off):

2. Next, turn the scanner back on by pressing and holding the power button, then scan the barcode below:

3. Once the Socket Scanner has beeped three times and the LED is flashing blue, reconnect your scanner to the iPad via Bluetooth.

Tip:

This mode treats the scanner as a keyboard. If you need to access the keyboard on the standard screen, double-click the scanner's power button.

Disconnecting the scanner :

If your iPad and Socket Mobile scanner are left unused long enough, they will enter sleep mode. When the Socket scanner goes into sleep mode, it is disconnected from the iPad. To reconnect your Socket Mobile scanner to your iPad, make sure thePrecision app is running and turn on the scanner normally.

Once you have done this, the scanner will take up to 30 seconds to reconnect automatically. It will beep when this happens.

Enable Auto Mode

Auto mode allows you to automatically scan a barcode without the cashier having to operate the scanner or press the scan button, simply by waving the barcode in front of the fixed scanner.

This feature requires a Socket Mobile charging cradle .

Note that:

The Socket Mobile 7Qi, 7Ci and S700 do not support Auto Scan mode

To enable Auto Scan mode, do the following:

  1. Pair and connect the scanner to your device before placing it in automatic mode. The scanner is not detectable when in automatic mode and on the rack.
  2. Scan the barcode below:

  1. Automatic mode is now enabled. Place the scanner in the Socket Mobile charging cradle.

Important:

When the scanner is in automatic mode, it will switch to presentation trigger mode when it detects power on the cradle pins.

When the scanner is removed from the cradle, it will remain in presentation trigger mode until the user presses the shutter release, at which time it will switch to normal manual trigger mode.

To reactivate the automatic mode, scan the above barcode again.
